Leeds United’s FA Cup defeat against Millwall will certainly be forgotten in the history books. But a revelation after the game could have fans worrying.

Leeds United see their 2024/25 FA Cup run come to a crashing halt after they were beaten 2-0 by Millwall at Elland Road, marking a first defeat in all competitions since the end of November.

Before the visit of Millwall, Leeds were unbeaten in their last 14 games in all competitions. And it’s surprising given the good recent form with Leeds United beating Coventry City comfortably in their last outing.

But 10 changes to the XI that beat Coventry certainly seemed to hinder Leeds against Alex Neil’s Millwall, who looked much more drilled and up for the battle.

Focus will quickly shift towards the next game. Leeds are away at Watford on Tuesday night, taking on a Hornets side who drew 2-2 against Sunderland on Saturday afternoon.

Daniel Farke reveals triple injury worry after Leeds United vs Millwall

Many expected Farke to make wholesale changes to his Leeds United XI for the game against Millwall. But few expected 10 changes, with Ethan Ampadu the only play to start against Coventry and then keep his spot for the Millwall game.

Worryingly, Farke revealed after the game that there’s a few knocks in the Leeds side, and to some of his key players as well. All of Joe Rodon, Dan James, and Joel Piroe have ‘knocks’, and Farke seems unsure whether they’ll feature against Watford.

Speaking to the press after the game Farke said: “Rodon and James had knocks. Not fully recovered. Nothing stupid today. Joel Piroe, a few knocks. No sense in risking anything today. Hope to have them back for Tuesday.”

Daniel Farke must really regret Leeds United’s January transfer window now

During the January transfer window, Leeds United were linked with a number of players, but nobody eventually signed for the first-team. Robbie Cook was the only signing and he joins the development team.

Strikers and centre-backs were the main areas that needed bolstering with numbers light in both positions. But the striker position seemed like the most pressing one and now with £10million signing Piroe potentially injured, it could spell disaster for Leeds.

Piroe, for all the criticism he receives, has been scoring goals this season, with 13 in the Championship so far. If he is injured then it’ll be a big ask for Mateo Joseph to come in and keep the momentum going.

Time will tell if the January window was a poor one for Leeds.
