Former Leeds United defender Danny Mills has urged the 49ers to be brave when making their decision over Daniel Farke’s future, even if he claims a victory against Manchester City.
With reports suggesting that Brendan Rodgers is open to a move to Leeds emerging in recent days, the pressure on Daniel Farke only seems to be intensifying.
Ahead of Leeds’ daunting trip to face Manchester City in the Premier League, Farke knows that a damaging defeat could be enough to see him lose his job as Leeds manager.
With Sean Longstaff and Anton Stach set to miss the game through injury, Farke will be forced to reshuffle his midfield to avoid a fourth consecutive defeat and a sixth defeat in seven games.
However, according to Danny Mills, even a victory against Manchester City may not be enough to save his job at Leeds as the 49ers consider his future at Elland Road.
The pressure is mounting on Daniel Farke… should Leeds United sack him?⌛
Leeds United cannot let Manchester City result change Daniel Farke decision
Speaking on Talksport Breakfast on the morning of 28th November, Mills explained why he believes the 49ers need to be “brave” when taking action over Farke’s future.
A win at Anfield in October 2022 earned Jesse Marsch a temporary reprieve as Leeds manager, and Mills warned against making the same mistake again with Farke.
Mills said: “I think that the next couple of games will be absolutely crucial. I don’t believe in you’ve got one game to save your job or two games to save your job.
“Either you’re the right man to get out of this, or you’re not. And if you’re not the right man, make a decision now.
Daniel Farke hits back after outside noise at Leeds United
“Just because you win a game doesn’t mean you’re the right man for the job, because you can win a game, last-minute penalty, or the opposition has an absolute nightmare. It doesn’t necessarily mean you’ve been good.
“So if the board are thinking about making a change, be brave and make that decision sooner rather than later.”
Daniel Farke’s record against Manchester City does not provide much comfort
Although Farke has claimed one win against Man City, as he inspired his Norwich side to a shock 3-2 victory in the 2019/20 season, he has not enjoyed much success against this weekend’s opposition.
Farke has managed against Man City three times in his career, following his first-game victory with two 5-0 defeats in succession in his two visits to the Etihad Stadium, according to TransferMarkt.

Leeds’ recent record against City is similarly bad, having lost four consecutive games since Stuart Dallas inspired a win in 2021, conceding 16 goals in the process, at an average of four goals per game.
BBC pundit Chris Sutton predicted a 4-0 win for City this weekend. If that comes true, then it could be Farke’s last game in charge of the club.
