Daniel Farke didn’t have too many complaints after Leeds United’s win over Luton Town but did admit one of his players should have either scored or assisted.
Leeds ran out comfortable 3-0 winners at Elland Road as Sam Byram, Joel Piroe and Dan James all got on the scoresheet to help Farke’s side return to the top of the Championship.
Farke had plenty of praise for Ao Tanaka post-match after another stunning midfield display alongside Joe Rothwell, who was also excellent on Wednesday night.
Meanwhile, former Leeds boss Neil Redfearn hailed Farke’s four wingers as ‘Premier League’ level in one of the few matches they have been in the squad together.
Rob Edwards also admitted Leeds were simply too good for Luton in an honest post-match verdict by the away side’s manager.
Farke tells Brenden Aaronson where to improve
One attacker who has split opinion among Leeds supporters after the game is Brenden Aaronson, whose form hasn’t quite been at its best lately.
Having started Leeds’ last 15 Championship matches, Farke is quite clearly a huge fan of Aaronson and it is easy to see why with his work rate.
Speaking in his post-match press conference, Farke revealed no player in the Championship covers as much distance as the American, but did share one criticism of his.
He says Aaronson has not been as tidy on the ball as he could’ve been in recent weeks and would liked to have seen him either score or assist against Luton due to some of the positions he got in.
He said: “He is always unbelievable with his work rate. Highest distance covered in the whole league of any player in any game on Sunday. We need in the centre a player who covers lots of distance.
“Could have been tidier in recent weeks on the ball. Brought himself into many decent positions tonight, but would have liked a goal or assist for him tonight. Crucial player for us.
“Stars can sometimes lose the ball and be divas about it, but Brenden runs to get the ball back for them. Big heart and big identification, big resilience.”
Aaronson still offering plenty for Leeds despite critics
Aaronson’s performance levels earlier in the season were higher than they are now but he is still offering plenty to the team.
As mentioned by Farke, his work rate should not go unnoticed as his pressing is a key reason behind why Leeds are able to sustain attacks so often.
That said, with all four of Leeds’ wingers now fit, his place in the team shouldn’t be a certainty, particularly with the form they are in.
Largie Ramazani came on for a handful of minutes centrally against Luton and looked electric. Perhaps that could be an avenue Farke looks to explore, to get as many of his wingers in the team as possible.
