Sam Chambers and Josuha Guilavogui made their debuts for Leeds United on Saturday afternoon as The Whites climbed into second place in the Championship with a 3-0 win over Plymouth.
With Sunderland failing to beat QPR away from home, Leeds closed the gap on Regis Le Bris’ side thanks to a brilliant 10-minute period towards the end of the second half at Elland Road on Saturday afternoon.
Dan James opened the scoring with his second of the season, a gorgeous goal from the best part of 25 yards. Joel Piroe and Brenden Aaronson made it two and three with clinical finishes from close range.
With Leeds cruising to all three points and a seventh league win of 24-25, Daniel Farke handed debuts to new signing Josuha Guilavogui as well as Thorp Arch academy stars Charlie Crew and Sam Chambers.
Daniel Farke impressed by Josuha Guilavogui’s debut for Leeds
Guilavogui, 34, entered the fray on 75 minutes, allowing Farke to rest Joe Rothwell with Millwall up next on Wednesday. An accomplished display from the Frenchman, who helped Leeds keep a clean sheet.
Guilavogui told Leeds fans he will learn Marching on Together on Instagram after the win, having made his debut. Farke was impressed with his new signing, identifying his experience and body language.
“I was happy to rest Rothwell in the second half ahead of a tough week. Always a bit nervous in there first. Josuha excellent. Body language, not sure if he lost one duel or ball. Could sense his experience,” he said.
Daniel Farke also comments on Sam Chambers and Charlie Crew
Crew and Chambers were two of six youngsters that travelled to Germany in the summer. Crew has been in and around the first team for a while without making his debut, even if he does have a first Wales cap.
Chambers was introduced alongside Guilavogui, while Crew came on for the last five minutes and Farke chose to heap specific praise on 17-year-old Chambers, saying he deserved his debut having trained well.
“Two of our own got on too. They were nervous. Nearly scored or got an assist. Not a gift. Sam Chambers in training, earned this. Well deserved. Need Sam and Charlie and Josuha. They delivered in a top way.”
