Daniel Farke says what he thought about Leeds United before he joined the club as manager

Daniel Farke has admitted what he felt about Leeds United before he joined the club back in the summer of 2023, and what he thought about the Yorkshire side even during his playing days.

Farke is approaching his 62nd match as manager of Leeds since being appointed as the club’s gaffer over a year ago, as a replacement for Sam Allardyce following the club’s relegation from the Premier League.

Leeds go to Cardiff City on Saturday afternoon, having suffered defeat last time out to a promotion rival in the form of Burnley. A 1-0 loss that has piled the pressure on Farke once again, at this early stage.

While the pressure is on Farke at the moment and some supporters are questioning his tactics on social media, the German gaffer says he is committed to getting it right and has always had a “soft spot”.

Farke admits always liking Leeds and falling for the club

Indeed, Farke says that even as a young player in Germany, he always looked fondly in the direction of Leeds. He said in Thursday’s press conference that since joining Leeds, he has fallen in love with the club.

“I don’t feel any pressure because I’ve followed this club since my playing days in Germany. I’ve always had a soft spot for Leeds and ever since I’ve learned more I’ve fell in love with this club,” Farke said.

One thing is for sure, Leeds have got to go and get a win at Cardiff on Saturday or the German gaffer will face the full force of criticism from supporters as concerns rise over the club’s hopes of promotion.

Farke should consider recalling one Leeds player for Cardiff clash

Leeds boss Farke did say that six players are doubts for Saturday with Dan James sidelines, including defensive trio Junior Firpo, Max Wober and Joe Rodon. Manor Solomon is said to be the biggest worry.

But one player also deemed a doubt in the form of Patrick Bamford should be considered recalling this weekend. That is because the one-time England man’s record against the Welsh side is utterly immense.

Former Middlesbrough and Nottingham Forest striker Bamford has a whopping six goals and an assist in nine career appearances against Cardiff, including four wins. Surely, Bamford has to be on the bench.
