Daniel Farke says £10m Leeds United player was complaining of injury before Blackburn clash, he still played 90 minutes

Daniel Farke could not get the better of Blackburn Rovers for a second successive outing as the German manager failed to guide Leeds United to a fourth Championship win in a row on Saturday.

Todd Cantwell scored the only goal of the game on Saturday from the penalty spot, a player Farke developed during his time as Norwich boss. From pupil to tormentor, as Cantwell scored the only goal.

It was a third loss of the season for Leeds, and Sheffield United now sit top after they beat Sunderland on Friday night. Worse still, Leeds now have to wait a whole week until they next play, when they host Derby.

Frustration was among many of a Leeds persuasion. Fans groaning and even Daniel Farke confronting Blackburn captain Lewis Travers on the pitch after the game, as Leeds suffered another 1-0 defeat.

Joe Rodon played 90 minutes with an injury against Blackburn

Rodon is renowned as a bit of a warrior. Asked about a gash he received while on international duty with Wales last time out, Rodon simply said he’s used to being bashed about as he plays in the Championship.

Speaking afterwards, manager Farke was asked why Max Wober and James Debayo warmed up as if they were starting the match. Farke said it was a precaution for £10m signing Rodon, who had a back injury.

“Rodon complained about back issues, but thankfully they came through it with our medical department. Came through these problems pretty quickly. Max and James got ready just in case,” Farke explained.

Leeds will now be sweating on Joe Rodon fitness ahead of Derby

While Leeds will be ruing the fact that they cannot put right the loss of Blackburn until a week from now when Derby come to town, it might serve as a blessing in disguise for Rodon in order to get fit again.

There were no signs that Rodon was playing with an injury and Farke has explained in the past how his Welsh players are made of stern stuff. It feels likely that even if not 100%, Rodon will start against Derby.

But for now, Leeds will have to lick their wounds and get back to the training ground after a busy week of football. Two wins and a loss from three is certainly not the end of the world, in the push to go up.
