It was a recognisable story for Leeds United fans on Saturday afternoon as The Whites suffered a 1-0 defeat to Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park, thanks to Todd Cantwell’s penalty.
Leeds came into the game with three wins in a row, beating QPR, Swansea and then Luton Town. But a push from Ao Tanaka in the penalty area gave Cantwell the chance to score from the spot, and he did.
No-one else found the back of the net during the game as Blackburn dropped into a low block, stifling Leeds in the process. Something which Leeds are no stranger to, but Leeds are no stranger to a 1-0 loss.
Indeed, Leeds have already lost games to Burnley and Millwall this season by a goal to nil when the other side score and then sit back to deny Leeds. Blackburn did just that, to the frustration of Daniel Farke.

Daniel Farke involved in incident with Blackburn star Lewis Travis
It was a hotly-contested match that resulted in four yellow cards and a total of 21 fouls between both sides. Towards the end of the game, manager Farke could be seen remonstrating with the fourth official.
His frustration, apparent. Then after the match, Yorkshire Evening Post reporter Graham Smyth says that Farke and Blackburn captain Lewis Travis were involved in an exchange on the pitch, held back by others.
Smyth reported on X: “Travis pulled away from Farke by team-mates, few words exchanged. Farke then goes back to him and they exchange views again but it seems a bit more respectful. Ends in a hug.”
John Eustace has the number of Daniel Farke since Leeds arrival
Interestingly, this was Eustace’s third game against Farke since he took over at Elland Road. His second with Blackburn while the first came before Eustace had been replaced by Wayne Rooney at Birmingham.
All three have resulted in 1-0 wins for Eustace over Farke, having beaten Leeds twice by the same result last season. Lukas Jutkiewicz scored an injury-time penalty back in August 2023, as Birmingham won.
Then in April 2024 just as Leeds’ push for automatic promotion was taking shape, Sammie Szmodics raced through to score the only goal of the game for Rovers. Eustace now, has three wins in three against Farke.
