Leeds United returned to the top of the Championship table on Wednesday with an easy 3-0 win over Luton Town at Elland Road – but have now fallen back off the summit of England’s second tier.
Goals from Sam Byram, Joel Piroe and Dan James on Wednesday night saw Leeds secure a tenth league win, and a tenth clean sheet against a side Daniel Farke still believes have a shot at reaching the top six.
Indeed, Luton were expected to put up more of a fight at Elland Road given they have only just been relegated from the Premier League. But, they could not cope with Leeds as Farke’s men eased to victory.
It was the second time in two games in which Leeds have climbed to the top of the Championship table. After 17 games, Leeds are three points better off than last season – but they are no longer in first place.
Sunderland go six games without a win on Friday night
Going into November, Regis Le Bris’ side were flying. Three wins in a row, before injury and suspension ravaged Le Bris’ side and it has seen the wheels fall off their early promotion push throughout November.
Indeed, Sunderland have gone winless in all six games this month. Five consecutive draws came during this month before going to Yorkshire to take on Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on Friday.
Sheffield United meanwhile, are going from strength to strength. A 1-0 win over Sunderland on Friday night saw The Blades return to the top of the table, securing a sixth win from their last seven matches.
Former Everton star Tom Davies scored the only goal of the game on 83 minutes, after Patrick Roberts had missed a first-half penalty. Both sides had a player sent off, in Chris Mepham and Harry Souttar.
Where Leeds sit in Championship table ahead of Blackburn clash
A point for Sunderland see the Black Cats remain in fourth place in the Championship table but a win for Sheffield United has catapulted them back into first place, three clear of Leeds with Leeds in action today.

With Leeds boasting a superior goal difference, a in at Ewood Park of any description will see Farke’s men return to the top of the table. However, Leeds lost the last time they faced Blackburn, albeit at home.
Sammie Szmodics has left Blackburn for Ipswich alongside ex-Leeds trio Jack Clarke, Leif Davis and Kalvin Phillips but he scored the only goal of the game towards the end of last season. Leeds will want revenge.
