Daniel Farke plan that had Leeds United fans ‘massively concerned’ earlier this year could be about to materialise

As things stand, Leeds United’s striker options are rather threadbare. But Daniel Farke could target one familiar face in this summer’s transfer window.

The summer transfer window is officially open and Leeds United look as though they’re really starting to put the feelers out, ahead of the Whites’ return to the Premier League under Daniel Farke.

Leeds United have made a £21.9million bid to sign Habib Diarra from Ligue 1 Strasbourg in what could be the club’s marquee signing this summer; or at least one of them.

But it’s strikers that Farke really needs with Joel Piroe, Patrick Bamford and Mateo Joseph his only options right now, with the latter two having been linked with moves away from Elland Road this summer too.

Leeds United still keeping tabs on Norwich City striker Josh Sargent

One striker who always seems to be mentioned alongside Leeds is Josh Sargent. Leeds United were linked with Sargent earlier in the year and to his credit, he enjoyed a strong 2024/25 season in the Championship.

Sargent was even named in the 2024/25 Championship Team of the Season ahead of Golden Boot winner Piroe, scoring 15 and assisting five in 32 Championship games, compared to Piroe’s 19 goals and seven assists in 46.

Recent reports have revealed how Leeds United remain interested in signing Sargent this summer. Farke previously signed USMNT forward Sargent, 25, at Carrow Road back in 2021.

Leeds United fans aren’t keen on Josh Sargent signing

With Sargent’s links to Leeds United being nothing new, we already have a clear answer from Whites fans on whether or not they want to see Sargent signed at Elland Road, and their answer is a hard no.

“He’s not good enough. I’d be massively concerned!” said one Leeds United fan, who echoed the opinions of many who think Sargent simply isn’t good enough for the Premier League.

Another Leeds fan posted earlier in the year: “If this is who we’re after for the Prem then we’re going straight back down,” as a similar comment read: “I’m not sure whether he’s a Premier League-standard striker. Championship maybe.”

Other comments read: “Don’t want him. He’s bang average”, “No offense but we need better!” as well as, “Aim higher than that”.

Sargent’s record in the Premier League certainly leaves a lot to be desired. But he’s dropped back down to the Championship and proven his worth, averaging 0.47 goals-per-game compared to Piroe’s 0.41, which would’ve given Sargent 22 goals should he have featured in every game last season, and the Golden Boot.

Farke has other options for his attack though, so Leeds United fans may yet get their wish, and see Farke avoid a potential deal for Sargent.
