Habib Diarra’s RC Strasbourg career

Liam Rosenior’s RC Strasbourg qualified for the UEFA Conference League and had the youngest team in Ligue 1 in doing so, which included Diarra as the captain of the team.

Graham Smyth believes there is still work to do on Diarra but the 21-year-old midfielder could be an exciting addition as he can operate as either a box-to-box midfielder or as an attacking midfielder.

Leeds fans all ask the same thing about Strasbourg’s Habib Diarra

Currently, Strasbourg are stalling Leeds talks to sign Diarra but a deal could yet be struck for the Whites to bolster their ranks in midfield.

That being said, a number of Leeds fans are asking the same question regarding Diarra. Many of the fanbase are unclear as to who this 21-year-old actually is.

Another Leeds supporter added: “Never heard of him.”

Others had heard of the team, assuming that makes Diarra a quality player: “Strasbourg?? Must be good they’ve had a quality season.”

Habib Habibou is the only other Habib to play for the club, and Leeds fans will be hoping for better from Diarra if he joins the club. It’s no great surprise that he is also an unknown quantity for many of the fanbase, though.

Diarra could become one of Leeds’ most expensive signings ever if they have to pay £22 million or more to secure a move for him this summer.

Habib Diarra’s ball-carrying and ball-winning would be excellent for Leeds

In terms of being an energetic ball-carrier in advanced areas, there are few in Europe better than Diarra at driving with the ball through midfield.

Per FBref, he is in the 88th percentile for progressive carries. Diarra attempts 2.33 per game and is also a capable ball-winner for a box-to-box player as well.

One slight issue for Leeds is that the Senegalese international will go to AFCON for a good portion of December and January, which will see Leeds go without the midfielder in a vital period.

There are more games played in that spell than in almost any other, particularly at the height of the festive period.
