Jaidon Anthony was a surprise absentee from Leeds United’s squad against Ipswich Town on Saturday.
Leeds ran out 4-0 winners against the Tractor Boys at Elland Road in what is a major statement of intent to the rest of the division, with goals coming from Pascal Struijk, Leif Davis (OG), Crysencio Summerville and Joel Piroe.
Anthony was an unused substitute in last week’s 1-1 draw with Coventry City and having played just 61 minutes since his last start at Stoke City, there have been reports he could return to Bournemouth early.
His surprise omission from the squad against Ipswich will have raised some eyebrows after the recent speculation, but speaking in his post-match press conference, Daniel Farke has provided an update.
He revealed that Anthony was not involved at all due to illness, before then confirming that he will stay at Leeds for the rest of the season.
Anthony could return at Preston
He said: “Yes, no chance for him. Came into training yesterday and felt horrendous. Doctors sent him home. Hopefully recovers for Preston. Yes, he will stay with us.”
Anthony will no doubt be feeling frustrated regarding his lack of game time recently, but thankfully his absence today was down to illness, and nothing more.
Today was the first of four matches in nine days and so rotation will be key over the Christmas period, meaning Anthony may get his chance to impress.
He has unfortunately been the victim of just how good those in his position have been this season. Summerville just simply won’t be dislodged from that left wing spot anytime soon.
But if his chance does come in the next few days he needs to be ready to take it and so hopefully he recovers in time to be fit for the Boxing Day trip to Preston North End.
