Sonny Perkins’ Leeds contract expires at the end of the season, but he has been performing well during his loan spell in League One with Leyton Orient.
Sonny Perkins hasn’t exactly experienced the dream at Leeds since his move from West Ham in the summer of 2022.
The 20-year-old has only managed four appearances during his time at Elland Road with Daniel Farke making it clear Perkins wasn’t in his plans.
However, his career may be back on the right track after returning to his boyhood club Leyton Orient on a season-long loan in June.

Sonny Perkins form could convince Daniel Farke to retain Leeds youngster
The young attacker has been consistently solid in League One and continued his fine form on Wednesday with two assists in Leyton Orient’s 3-2 victory versus Bristol Rovers.
Perkins has been a key part of Orient’s success so far this season, with his loan club on a run of nine games unbeaten in all competitions, and cementing a real play-off charge.
After a failed loan spell at Oxford United, it seemed as though Perkins’ Leeds tenure was fading which led to him signing on loan with Orient this season.
O’s boss Richie Wellens accepts the fact that Perkins wouldn’t agree to a 2025 transfer, indicating there will be serious interest in the youngster if Leeds doesn’t tie him down to a new deal.
Farke deemed Perkins surplus to requirements but may now be questioning his decision with the youngster still clearly beaming with potential.
Arsenal’s Declan Rice saw a ‘bright future’ in Perkins
With the former Hammers star now performing at a suitable level for his age it comes as no surprise that Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice rated Perkins so highly.
Coming through the West Ham academy, Perkins played with Rice at 17 years old after David Moyes handed the youngster his senior debut in a Europa League victory against Rapid Vienna in 2021.
Following the win, Rice posted an Instagram story, commenting: “The debutant! Buzzing for you brother @sonnyperkins future is bright.”
Rice’s words have been proved right judging by Perkins’ statistics so far this season, and with Leyton Orient’s form, you’d fancy these figures to grow.
| Sonny Perkins’ statistics in the 2024/25 season | |
| Appearances | 26 |
| Goals | 4 |
| Assists | 5 |
| Minutes played | 1.240′ |
Plenty to ponder for Farke with six months left on Perkins’ contract, but judging by Rice’s ability on the pitch, you’d trust his initiative.
