‘He didn’t shine’… Daniel Farke confirms 19-year-old Leeds United player is no longer part of his plans

Daniel Farke has been speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of Leeds United’s trip to Peterborough this weekend.

The Whites will be looking to progress through to the fourth round of the FA Cup for just the second time in seven years, as they face one of the most inform sides in League One.

And while there is a game on the horizon, it has to be said that much of Farke’s presser was spent discussing the transfer window, and in particular Djed Spence after his early return to Tottenham Hotspur.

But Farke was also asked about another loan situation, too, after Sonny Perkins‘ season-long-loan spell at Oxford United was ended early, after just three very brief cameo appearances in the league.

Speaking to the media earlier this afternoon, Farke confirmed that Perkins is ‘not part of his plans’ moving forward for the rest of the season, and will be training with the U21s again.

Perkins no longer part of Farke’s Leeds plans

He said: “He’s not part of my plans. I spoke about the culture and he was with us in pre-season. He got the chance to impress in pre-season games and we decided it was a bit too soon for him to be involved.

“He didn’t shine during this period and there was an opportunity to loan him out. He is with our 21s and he has to train and develop on the things he has to improve.

“He has got a lot of potential and if he works consistently he has all the chances to shine. We will give him all the support and challenges that he has in his game.”

Oxford boss Des Buckingham also addressed the situation surrounding Perkins earlier, stating that while was training well under him, the decision was taken due to his lack of opportunities.

Given that Perkins was actually involved earlier in the season at Leeds, the 19-year-old’s failure to impress on loan seems to have really dented his chances of ever making it at Elland Road.

FIFA rules stipulate that a player is not allowed to play for three clubs in a single season, and so with that in mind, Perkins will have to spend the rest of the campaign playing U21s football. The summer will be important for him.
