TeamTalk claim Leeds United have decided to allow Sonny Perkins to leave the club on loan this summer amid a whole host of interest from numerous Championship clubs – including Sunderland, Birmingham City and Blackburn.
Perkins, 19, joined Leeds last summer from West Ham and starred for our Under-21 side – helping us gain an instant return to the top tier of Premier League 2. He scored 13 goals from out wide in 23 games, laying on three assists.
That form also saw him play three times at senior level, scoring a late equaliser in the FA Cup third-round clash at Cardiff – the side we face first in the 23-24 season – to force a replay. But now, he will be allowed to leave on loan.
The report states that Leeds have decided to let him go on loan for the 23-24 campaign, and Championship clubs are lurking. Sunderland want to land Perkins, but face competition from Tyler Roberts’ new side Birmingham City.
Blackburn are also keen on the ex-West Ham man, who is a regular for England’s U19 side. Indeed, half a dozen Championship clubs are said to want to sign Perkins on loan. Declan Rice once declared his “future is bright”.
Leeds allow Perkins to leave on loan with Sunderland interested
It is the right step in Perkins’ career. The talented youngster might see himself breaking in at Leeds this summer if the likes of Jack Harrison, Willy Gnonto, Luis Sinisterra and Cree Summerville go. But, signings will also come in.
Those players will need to be replaced and Leeds will have the money to spend in order to do so. Perkins, right now, needs first-team experience and a move out on loan – to a Championship club – would be perfect for him currently.
