Daniel Farke spoke on Tuesday afternoon in his pre-match press conference ahead of Wednesday’s clash against Norwich City – and he gave an injury update on Leeds United attacker Willy Gnonto.
Gnonto, 20, has only started once for Leeds in the Championship since October 25 – in the loss against West Brom. But he has featured as a substitute in every other match since then. He’s struggling to start.
Largely down to the form of Cree Summerville and Dan James. But also, because Gnonto tried to leave in the summer and that has seen him drop out of the side and fail to recover his starting spot at Leeds.
He has interest in his services, from the likes of Fulham and West Ham – but he now looks set to sign a new deal at Elland Road. Last time out, Gnonto was injured and missing from Sunday’s win over Preston.
An issue, with his hip. But, speaking on Tuesday, Farke says that the Italy star could make a return to action on Wednesday – albeit, not from the start. He says that Gnonto could train on Tuesday afternoon.
“Some good news, some progress with Gnonto. He’s not been in team training so far. We have a session this afternoon. We try to bring him into the session for the first time. He’s been out for 12 days,” he said.
“It is a question mark if he is available, definitely not from the start but a topic for the squad. I expect him to be back against Plymouth in The FA Cup,” Farke added, as per Leeds United’s YouTube channel.

Of course, having a player like Gnonto back available is a boost. He would improve any side at this level. Even, if he is not starting. Or, as Farke suggests, is unable to start on Wednesday night against Norwich.
Gnonto is yet to find his best form but with a new deal on the horizon for the former Inter Milan and Zurich attacker – the winger could feel like he is being given a second chance in a Leeds shirt this term.
