Daniel Farke has just done something no Leeds United manager in history has ever achieved

Leeds United’s Daniel Farke has been crowned the Championship’s January manager of the month.

The Whites have won all five league matches they have played in the calendar year of 2024 so far, four of which came last month in win’s over Birmingham City, Cardiff City, Preston North End and Norwich City.

Farke was able to pip Plymouth Argyle’s Ian Foster, Southampton’s Russell Martin and Coventry City’s Mark Robins to the award, with Leeds the only side to have a 100 per cent record.

This is the second time Farke has won the award this season having also done so back in November, meaning he will therefore go down in Leeds folklore.

As per statistician @lufcstats on Twitter, Farke has become the first manager in the club’s history to win the manager of the month twice in his first season in charge. The award has been running since the 1970/71 campaign.

Marcelo Bielsa was also able to win the award twice in a single season during his time at Leeds, though that came in the year the Whites won the Championship title, which was his second as manager.

Leeds have shown excellent character to string together this run of results since the turn of the New Year, having suffered back-to-back defeats for the first time under Farke after Christmas.

Leeds were well adrift of those top two places but never panicked on the gap that had been opened up, and are now more than in the hunt. They sit above Ipswich Town for the first time all season, and just one behind Southampton in second.

There is still a long way to go until the end of the campaign but there is arguably no one else you would want as manager in this situation, given Farke’s track record of getting out of this division.

Leeds will be hoping to make it six Championship wins in a row tomorrow when they host bottom of the table Rotherham United at Elland Road.
