Conor Coady names the ‘masterstroke’ that has saved Daniel Farke from the Leeds United sack

Daniel Farke’s job security at Leeds United is a whole lot stronger than it was just a week ago, having since picked up results against Chelsea and Liverpool.

It was just a week ago that a report from one of the biggest national newspapers in The Guardian said that Farke had to get a result against Chelsea or Liverpool, or Farke would be sacked by the 49ers.

The pressure is mounting on Daniel Farke… should Leeds United sack him?⌛

Indeed, Paraag Marathe made the rare visit to Elland Road to take in the 3-1 win over Chelsea, but his attendance might suggest that he was there for another reason. In case Leeds had lost to the Blues.

But a win against Chelsea and a late draw against Liverpool has improved things, with Leeds now in a much more comfortable 16th place and with Brentford next. But the pressure remains on the Leeds boss.

Conor Coady says rumours over Daniel Farke’s future were wrong

Gary Neville thinks plans to sack Farke have now been ripped up and the German has bought himself some time. How much time, is another question. Coady gave his verdict on the Monday Night Club.

The current Wrexham defender and former England international believes it was ridiculous that Farke was being touted with the sack, anyway: “I never understood it, the last few weeks. He’s got a bit of stick.

“People have mentioned his job. I think he’s done a brilliant job. He had Leeds firing in the Championship and the Premier League is a different beast. Their goal is to finish 17th or above, to stay in the division.

“Leeds are still in the mix [to stay up] at Christmas. I really like him. I like how he holds himself, how he talks, the formation change – that’s been a masterstroke. They’re really good to watch,” Coady continued.

How long does Daniel Farke now have at Leeds? 🔮

Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher and others on Farke's position…

Gary Neville: “I don’t know how much attention we can pay to the rumours of the manager being close to the edge. That will have pulled him right back. If you’re in the boardroom, you’re thinking okay, let’s just hang back.”

Jamie Carragher: “Yes, brilliant management, but going to 3-5-2 doesn’t mean all Leeds problems are finished. They are going to lose games; they are going to find it difficult. They do not have the quality of the other teams.”

Chris Sutton: “Speculation surrounding him – I don’t know how true it is, but he was fighting for his job.“I thought that was deeply unfair because Leeds have been competitive. Really good at home. I’m really pleased for Daniel Farke.”

Conor Coady: “I never understood it, the last few weeks. He’s got a bit of stick and people have mentioned his job. I think he’s done a brilliant job.”

What does Farke need in the three games left to play this month?

The pressure is going to remain on Farke and Leeds, and as always, a loss will be viewed as the end of the world by Leeds fans. But there is every chance that Farke can keep Leeds unbeaten throughout December.

With Brentford away, Palace at home and Sunderland away next, Leeds have a slightly weaker fixture list. All Farke and Leeds need to do is to remain above the point a game line, which is currently 15 from 15.

That means a win, or three draws from the remaining three games in 2025 would be adequate for Farke. But given the momentum from the last two games and opponents, fans will hope Leeds can do better.

We predict Leeds to get a point against Brentford, draw with Crystal Palace at Elland Road, and then Leeds to win away at Sunderland on December 28, given Sunderland will be missing many key players.
