‘Concern’… Daniel Farke shares update on Sam Byram injury after Leeds win vs Blackburn

Daniel Farke has provided an update on Sam Byram after he picked up a hamstring injury in Leeds United’s win over Blackburn Rovers.

Byram had to be replaced in the second half of the 2-0 victory after feeling a problem with his hamstring following a 50/50 challenge on the left touchline.

With Junior Firpo already out, Byram’s injury is the only downside from Leeds’ win at Ewood Park as goals from Dan James and Crysencio Summerville in either half earned a third successive win.

Speaking in his post-match press conference, Farke says Byram could be out for the next two matches but is hopeful that it will not be for any longer.

He said: “It could be that he’s out for this week but we’ll assess him. There’s a concern about him for the next two games at least.”

Leeds need to manage Byram

It is not that long since Byram recovered from a hamstring injury he picked up just before the November international break and so Leeds will have to manage him carefully.

Byram has done well to play as much as he has given his record in recent years, but clearly the number of games are catching up with him.

That said, Leeds do not have a natural replacement for him with Firpo already out and recovering from a hamstring injury of his own, suffered in the recent win over Swansea City.

Leeds have tough games against Ipswich Town and West Brom to come later this month and so it might be that they have to ease him back in so he is ready for Christmas.

That said, there is no doubt his absence will be hard felt and it might be that Djed Spence has to cover for him, like he did in the second half today.
