In a three-horse race for a top-two finish, someone has to miss out, and in this case, it’s Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United.
Leeds United and Burnley took the glory from Easter Monday’s promotion race showdown as Daniel Farke showed exactly why he was hired.
The 49ers’ genius in keeping the German has paid off as Farke has now won three promotions.
This is what he has mastered by now which should raise questions why Farke’s Leeds future was in doubt.
Of course, the Premier League will be a whole different ball game, but Wilder has labelled this campaign as ‘insane’, proving why it’s one of the best leagues in the world.

Chris Wilder on ‘insane’ Leeds United and Burnley season
It’s unfortunate for Wilder, who will be hoping his fortunes go his way in the playoffs.
Leeds fans know all too well about finishing outside the top two, so there might be slight sympathy for the Blades boss, but only slight.
Wilder congratulated Leeds on promotion in a classy response to Sheffield throwing away their chances.
It was in the Blades’ hands at one stage, but Wilder probably knows exactly why his side couldn’t quite compete in the end with Parker and Farke’s teams.
Speaking to BBC Radio Sheffield, the Sheffield manager spoke on the standard that has been set this campaign.
“For those two teams to get close to 100 points just shows what the division is like,” Wilder said.
“We’d have still had to get 95/96/97 points to go up. It’s an insane season. Our younger players will learn from it.
“We’ve fallen a little bit short.”

Leeds and Burnley were always going to triumph over Sheffield
When taking into account the Championship these days, money is the main factor.
Of course, Leeds had big sales this summer with the like of Georginio Rutter and Archie Gray leaving for big fees.
Burnley saw Wilson Odobert and Sander Berge as their main departures, whereas Wilder really only lost Cameron Archer in a big deal.
The funds both the Clarets and Whites gain from this have been reinvested perfectly, which has always given them the upper hand over Wilder’s side.
| Position | Team | Played MP | Won W | Drawn D | Lost L | For GF | Against GA | Diff GD | Points Pts |
| 1 | 44 | 27 | 13 | 4 | 89 | 29 | 60 | 94 | |
| 2 | 44 | 26 | 16 | 2 | 61 | 15 | 46 | 94 | |
| 3 | 44 | 27 | 7 | 10 | 60 | 35 | 25 | 86 |
Football is a money game now, and both Leeds and Burnley will find that out with the big boys next season.
Leeds are set for Championship prize money, but they’ll need a lot more than that to compete.
