Chris Wilder has been speaking after his Sheffield United side suffered defeat to Burnley at Turf Moor and in turn, saw both Leeds United and Burnley secure promotion to the Premier League.

For the entirety of the season, it has been a three-horse race between Leeds, Sheffield United and Burnley to finish in the top two. Leeds looked like they had slipped following a run of just one win in six games.

Indeed, Leeds slipped into third place after the draw at Luton Town. However, Daniel Farke’s side rallied and have won four games on the bounce, coinciding with Sheffield United losing three gamesin a row.

Defeats to Oxford United, Millwall and then Plymouth followed by Monday’s defeat at Burnley has now succumbed Sheffield United to the play-offs with Burnley and Leeds left to fight it out for the title.

Leeds’ 6-0 win over Stoke City was a whitewash, a side pushing for promotion against Mark Robins’ men who looked as though they were on holiday. The Whites completely obliterated the Staffordshire side.

That piled the pressure on Wilder’s men to go and beat Burnley away, and simultaneously end Burnley’s run of 30 games unbeaten. But a Josh Brownhill brace proved too much for Sheffield United to overcome.

A 2-1 win for Burnley confirms Leeds and Burnley’s place in the top two, leaving Sheffield United to fight it out for the play-offs. Speaking to ITV Sport after the game, Wilder congratulated Leeds and Farke.

“First and foremost, congratulations to Daniel and Leeds – they have been incredibly outstanding all season. I’ve just congratulated Scott. We can still get into the nineties and that is an achievement.

“The season got away from us, but the three best teams have been in and around it all season, until that really bad week and lost three games. Fairplay, they stepped on the gas and took it away from us.”

How Kalvin Phillips and Pablo Hernandez reacted to promotion

The feel-good factor is back at Leeds with the club now back in the big time following relegation at the end of the 2022-23 season. But there is plenty to be said about whether Leeds have a chance of survival.

Gabby Agbonlahor has already predicted relegation while Adam Pope says Leeds will need to spend over £100m to survive. But in the mean time, Kalvin Phillips and Pablo Hernandez took to Instagram to react.

Focus remains on Leeds’ final two games. Farke will be desperate to win the Championship title given his previous two promotions at Norwich came with the Canaries winning the division, finishing in first place.
