Championship rivals set to make £2m offer for Leeds target, 22-23 form was excellent

Carlos Corberan is hoping to beat Leeds United to the signing of Sory Kaba with The Mirror (August 1, page 39) now claiming West Brom are preparing a bid to land the Gambian – while Birmingham World say he is rated at just £2m.

Kaba, 28, has caught the eye among Championship clubs ahead of the 2023-24 campaign after his loan spell with Cardiff City last season. He joined the club in January, and scored eight goals in 17 games for Cardiff – saving them.

He has returned to Midtjylland where he finds a year left on his current deal. He has already scored this season for the Danish side, in their Europa Conference League qualifiers, during a 2-0 win over Progres Niederkorn last week.

The Express & Star say Kaba is a target for West Brom and ex-Leeds coach Corberan. It is after UD Las Palmas.Net said Leeds, Watford, Cardiff and three other Championship clubs want him. A new report says he is rated at £2m.

Kaba is the kind of player that would be a wonderful signing for any Championship club. He has shown that he can score goals in a side that are struggling at the bottom of the division. But he is easily good enough for the top clubs.

For Leeds and West Brom, who will be looking to push for the top six this season, Kaba would certainly be a decent addition and at £2m – why not? A bargain, risk free, for a player in the prime of his career and proven in this league.

Leeds need Kaba, as do West Brom – and perhaps more so, after injuries sustained by Patrick Bamford and French ace Georginio Rutter. They could now be thwarted by a manager the Mail said Leeds wanted, just two months ago.
