Daiki Hashioka emerged as a surprise target for Leeds United over the weekend and there were claims he was on his way to Elland Road – only to join Premier League side Luton Town yesterday.
Hashioka, 24, starred in Belgium over the last two years. A player that had a hand in 16 goals in 96 games for Jupiler League side Sint-Truiden. That form has seen him win seven caps for Japan, too.
Over the weekend, it was claimed Leeds were signing Hashioka. But then, he moved to Luton. It has since been claimed that Leeds chose not to sign the Japan star due to a recent injury he picked up.
So, Hashioka has joined Luton – who won 4-0 against Brighton on Tuesday night, a quite incredible victory. Speaking to Luton’s website, Hashioka explained why he chose to join Rob Edwards’ side.
“It’s always been a dream of mine to play in the Premier League. It’s physically and technically a top league and very intense, so I know it’s going to be difficult but I’ll give my all for the team,” he said.

Our search for a right-back continues. Ben Godfrey of course, remains a target. The Everton defender, though, played for The Toffees last night and saw out 90 minutes as they drew away at Fulham.
Everton want a replacement in first and Leicester’s Harry Souttar is a target. Meanwhile, Sean Dyche is said to have had a conversation with Godfrey before last night – amid reports that Leeds are interested.
It might be that a completely new name emerges. Connor Roberts of Burnley has been linked, as have a number of other defenders this month. But at this stage, it is unclear if Leeds are going to sign anyone.
