Leeds United are set to welcome Junior Firpo back into the squad to face Ipswich Town on Saturday.

Firpo has been action of action for the last three weeks having picked up a hamstring injury in the 3-1 win over Swansea City at the end of November.

Daniel Farke confirmed in his pre-match press conference before the 1-1 draw with Coventry City at the weekend that Firpo had returned to training on Friday, but would not be ready to return to the squad.

However, now according to Leeds Live, Firpo is expected to be fit enough to be back against Ipswich, though at this stage it is unclear whether he will be ready to start.

Djed Spence has been forced to fill in there over the last couple of matches with Sam Byram also on the sidelines, but given Firpo’s injury record this season, it is hard to see him being thrown straight back in.

Firpo return but welcome, but Leeds need a new left-back

Left-back has once again been a problem position for Leeds over the last few weeks, with Byram’s absence extremely hard felt for Farke’s side.

In the six matches Byram has not started this season, Leeds have not yet won a single one, though in fairness to Firpo, he has only started just one of those.

Firpo has struggled desperately with injuries this season, having missed the first three months of the season. He then returned for just three matches, before picking up another issue.

Regardless of whether Firpo can stay fit over Christmas, Leeds are in desperate need of another left-back in January, a fact which Farke has already admitted.

Firpo himself has also been linked with a move away from Elland Road in January and so it will be interesting to see how much he is involved over the coming weeks.
