Daniel Farke says Jamie Shackleton and Sam Byram will be missing as Leeds United prepare to take on Sunderland away from home on Tuesday – with Byram expected to be out until the new year.
Both Byram and Shackleton were involved in Saturday’s 2-0 away win over Blackburn. Byram started the match at left-back, but came off after 70 minutes – with a hamstring issue. Djed Spence replaced him.
Shackleton remained an unused sub on Saturday, but Farke says both players will now be missing at Sunderland – who remain without a manager with Tony Mowbray sacked. Shackleton has a glute injury.
Indeed, Farke confirmed the news while remaining hopeful that Patrick Bamford could return to the squad for the clash – after missing Blackburn with flu. He spoke via the Leeds YouTube channel today.
“I can confirm that Sam Byram is definitely out, hamstring strain. He will be out for about three weeks. Realistically, we expect him to be back in the new year. Shackleton has a glute injury, he is not available.
“He trained yesterday but he felt it after training. Patrick Bamford has not trained but we have a session this afternoon and hopefully he can come through. We have to wait,” Farke told his press conference.

It is a game that sees Leeds come up against a Sunderland side that beat West Brom on Saturday, even though Mowbray has been sacked. We take on two ex-Leeds players. Niall Huggins, and Jack Clarke.
A tough game and one that would be a massive win if we can come away with three points, especially with Byram out injured due to a hamstring knock. It will be interesting to see who comes in for Byram.
