Leeds United have been linked with a number of Premier League defenders this month.

The Whites could potentially strengthen in every position across the back four, with a right-back needed after Djed Spence and Luke Ayling’s departures, Daniel Farke having admitted his squad could do with another left-back, and a central defender required if Charlie Cresswell leaves.

It has been an extremely quiet January transfer window on the whole with clubs reluctant to over-spend amid profit and sustainability rules.

The Premier League loan market is where Leeds are focusing much of their attention and the latest name to be linked with a move to Elland Road this week is Everton’s Ben Godfrey.

Leeds are set to battle it out with both Sheffield United and AC Milan for the 26-year-old, who has struggled for game time this season due to injuries and the form of those ahead of him.

Godfrey would be a superb signing for Leeds

In order to really kick start his career again, Godfrey could probably do with a fresh start and there would be no better move for him than Leeds at the moment.

Godfrey would be able to reunite with a manager who he played the best football of his career under in Daniel Farke at Norwich City, with the Leeds boss a big fan of him.

Though primarily a centre-back, Godfrey is able to cover every position across the back four and has done so several times for Everton.

He also has a very similar profile to current first choice centre-back Joe Rodon, with his recovery speed and ball-playing ability among some of his best attributes.

The only real downside to bring Godfrey in this month is how injury prone he has been over the last couple of seasons, but a fresh start could be what he needs to put those behind him.
