£12m player who snubbed summer Leeds move still yet to win a single league match this season

Leeds United’s extremely successful transfer window was not without its rejections and disappointments.

The Whites brought in nine new players over the course of a busy summer that also saw 17 go the other way, and depart Elland Road.

In a window where Leeds were working right until the very last minute, Daniel Farke’s side were involved in a number of comical transfer sagas.

Bayer Leverkusen’s Nadiem Amiri changed his mind on a transfer at least three times, while Joseph Paintsil would probably have been a Leeds player but for a hold up at the Genk end.

But the most gut-wrenching saga, particularly for Farke, will have undoubtedly been how close they were to signing Max Aarons from Norwich City, only to be gazumped at the 11th hour by Bournemouth.

Aarons still yet to win a league match for Bournemouth

As per Pink Un, Leeds had agreed an initial £7 million deal that could’ve potentially risen to £12 million with Norwich for Aarons, who had travelled down to West Yorkshire to undergo a medical.

However, at the very last moment, Bournemouth put in a call and off he went to the South Coast, with the lure of Premier League football too much.

For whatever reason, Aarons was dropped to the bench for Bournemouth’s 3-0 defeat at Everton last week, having been a bright spark in an otherwise dreadful start to the season.

Aarons had started all of their opening seven Premier League matches prior to their trip to Goodison Park, a match which extended their winless start to the season to eight.

The 23-year-old is alongside former Leeds duo Tyler Adams and Luis Sinisterra at Bournemouth, though the former is once again set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to a recurrence of a hamstring injury.

Leeds were beaten to a number of signings by lower Premier League clubs in the summer, but his start to the season with Bournemouth poses the question as to why they are so desperate to get back there with clubs near the bottom, due to how often they lose matches.
