Leeds United brought in nine new players in the summer following their relegation from the Premier League.

Having lost several members of last season’s first team squad, Leeds were tasked with rebuilding the playing staff, which they did right up until the end of the window.

With so many positions in need of filling, Leeds’ summer was not without its stressful sagas that often ended in frustrating outcomes.

Max Aarons had been set to do a medical at Leeds before an 11th hour hijack by Bournemouth, while a deal for Joseph Paintsil had also looked close until a reported hold up at the Genk end.

However, undoubtedly the craziest saga of the summer was Leeds’ pursuit of Nadiem Amiri, who changed his mind on a move from Bayer Leverkusen on several occasions.

Amiri made to regret decision to snub Leeds

One of the reasons for Amiri’s snub was said to have been his reluctance to drop into the Championship, but ultimately it is a decision he has been made to regret with how his season has gone so far.

Leverkusen themselves have enjoyed a superb start to the campaign, sitting top of the Bundesliga with 19 points from their opening seven matches.

However, Amiri has played little to no part of that, having played just five minutes of league action so far, with Xabi Alonso using him extremely sporadically.

The 26-year-old has also been able to play no part in their European campaign either, after being left out completely of their squad for the group stages.

There is no doubt as the weeks tick by with minutes at an absolute minimum, he will be regretting more and more not to have taken up Leeds’ offer.
