A report from Get German Football News has explained the two reasons why Nadiem Amiri has rejected a move from Bayer Leverkusen to join Leeds United – and they are both completely out of our hands.
Amiri and a possible move to Leeds has been a bizarre saga this summer. The 26-year-old has been coming and going. But a move is off, despite the player travelling to Leeds for talks over the weekend.
The report from GGFN states that Amiri and his agents were in Leeds after Leverkusen inflicted a 3-0 defeat on Max Wober’s Gladbach, away from home. No agreement made, with a £5m fee on the table.
Indeed, the report explains two reasons as to why Amiri has decided to turn Leeds down and return to Leverkusen. The first being his European ambitions, and he feels Leeds may struggle to get promoted.
The second is less hypothetical, in that Amiri is awaiting the birth of his first child. He is wary of a new environment just as he is about to become a Father. For these two reasons, he has turned down Leeds.

Of course, it is far from a guarantee that Leeds will gain promotion. Yes, our attack is in excellent shape but we are still leaking goals – even at this level. Seven goals, and no clean sheets after five matches.
So, it is fair to say that Leeds may struggle to be in the top six after the first season and even then, it is not a definite that Leeds are promoted. To have played in Germany all his life, moving country is difficult.
Especially when a child is on the way. So, more than fair enough that Amiri has decided to stay put – but clearly, Leeds managed to tempt him despite these reasons. Leeds are set to move on to other targets.
