Leeds United made it back-to-back wins on Saturday, after beating Preston to remain in 1st place of the Championship.

It’s been a nervy few weeks at Leeds United. Daniel Farke has been well under the spotlight after his side took just two wins from seven games in the Championship, even dropping down into 3rd place of the table at one point.

But the Whites returned to the top of the pile after their win at Middlesbrough in the week, then cementing their spot in the top after beating Preston North End 2-1 on Saturday thanks to goals from Manor Solomon and Jayden Bogle.

To make matters even better for Farke, Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United lost at Plymouth Argyle to now fall five points behind Burnley in 2nd, who are level on points with Leeds United.

Next up for the Whites is a trip to oxford United next Friday.

Daniel Farke verdict on Patrick Bamford after Leeds United 2-1 Preston

Patrick Bamford has returned for Leeds United in the last few games. The 31-year-old has made substitute appearances in the last three now and Bamford had a goal ruled out against Middlesbrough in controversial circumstances: what would’ve been his first league goal of the season.

In the build up to the Preston game, Leeds United fans called for Bamford to start ahead of Joe Piroe who’s not scored in eight now. Farke stuck with Piroe but the Dutchman would go on to miss seven chances against Preston, not registering a single shot on target.

Speaking to Leeds Live after the game, Farke gave his verdict on Bamford and suggested that criticism of the Englishman has been ‘over the line’ at times, with Bamford often a divisive player among the Elland Road faithful.

Farke said: “You need to handle the pressure and the praise. Everyone senses how much effort Patrick puts in. He deserves all the praise. The writing him off was much over the line. We all know we work in an emotional environment.”

What Leeds United fans said about Joel Piroe after Preston win

Although Leeds United fans are delighted with another win, and equally delighted to see Sheffield United lose once again, Piroe was a talking point after the game, and not a good one.

The striker just kept missing chance after chance. It’s come to a point now where many think Piroe is just not up to scratch, which is hard to believe given that he’s scored 15 goals in the league this season, but he’s just not at the races right now.

Leeds United fans blasted Piroe’s performance against Preston, once again highlighting the number of chances he misses in games and calling for Bamford to start in the next game.

Leeds United’s game against Oxford United kicks off at 8pm on Friday.
