The Leeds United player that fans want Daniel Farke to axe vs Preston, he’s ‘offered nothing for weeks’

Daniel Farke may find his team selection when Leeds United take on Preston this weekend is a whole lot easier than it has been in recent weeks, following Tuesday night’s win over Middlesbrough.

The run of one win in six Leeds United matches saw a number of players questioned when it comes to form. That, combined with some new injuries had seen plenty speculate how Daniel Farke could line-up.

Farke has chosen to drop Illan Meslier after a number of mistakes and Karl Darlow has made his decision worthwhile, bringing the Wales no.1 in against Luton and Middlesbrough, looking very calm and assured.

At Luton, Farke chose Willy Gnonto over Brenden Aaronson but the American returned against Boro on Tuesday. Both stated their case with glimpses of magic against Michael Carrick’s play-off chasing side.

The Leeds United player that fans now want Daniel Farke to axe

For Joel Piroe, the last few weeks have been torrid. This is a player that is in the team because he scores goals, with Farke describing Piroe as the Championship’s best finisher. But what else does Piroe offer?

When he isn’t scoring goals, Piroe offers very little to this team. He laid on 21 goals and assists in Leeds’ first 34 Championship games, nothing in the last seven – and Leeds fans now think it is time for the axe.

Leeds fans have taken to X to suggest a change, taking Leeds’ £16m signing Piroe out of the side and bringing in Patrick Bamford who has looked revitalised as substitute against Luton Town and then Boro.

One Leeds fan said that The Whites “look a better team” with Bamford in the side, with the supporter saying Piroe has “offered nothing for weeks” now. Another said he “forgot what a 9 looks like, useful”.

He went on to suggest Bamford should come in for Piroe after the one-time England man had a very good and perfectly legal goal disallowed against Boro. Another said he would “100% start Bamford”.

Another posted on X that Leeds “can’t rely on Piroe” and he “needs dropping”. Perhaps a bit of time out of the starting XI may help Piroe relax, and make more of an impact coming on as a substitute still fresh.

What Bamford did on Tuesday more than any other Leeds player

Bamford was excellent off the bench at Boro. He should have had a goal on what was his 200th Leeds outing, with Bamford posting sarcastically on Instagram following the match having missed out on a goal.

But there was a determination about Bamford. For the first time in a long time, he looked as though he was playing without fear of injury. Indeed, Bamford won more duels than any other starting Leeds player.

Incredible, given he only played from 72 minutes onwards. That fight is lacking in Piroe at the moment and if Farke is to make a change – other than Dan James – then it should be replacing Piroe with Bamford.
