One of Leeds United’s most-recent debutants has been in action during the international break with English-born Sam Chambers representing Scotland’s Under-19 side.

On Saturday night, Joe Rodon, Dan James and Karl Darlow were in action for Wales. Rodon suffered a nasty-looking wound to his head, but he assured Leeds fans afterwards it’s nothing to worry about.

Meanwhile, Junior Firpo helped the Dominican Republic win 6-1 and go within an inch of qualifying for the Gold Cup for the first time. But they were not the only Leeds players in action for their countries.

Sam Chambers, 17, is enjoying a breakthrough season at Elland Road. The youngster was involved for Daniel Farke’s side during pre-season, with Chambers one of six Leeds youngsters to fly to Germany.

Scotland fans impressed by Leeds teen Sam Chambers’ debut

Then, Chambers made his debut for Leeds in the 3-0 win over Plymouth – with manager Farke heaping praise on Chambers. Now, Leeds-born Chambers has been busy during the break in a Scotland shirt.

Chambers started for Scotland’s U19 side as they beat Licheinstein 4-0 on Saturday night, with the Leeds ace playing in central midfield. Scotland fans discussed his performance on social media after the game.

One fan replied to the above post, by saying he was the “best player on the pitch today”, and that Scotland should get him involved with the U21 side before the end of the season.

Another is aware of his England ties, and said “hope he sticks with us”.

Another is simply excited by Chambers, describing him as “really good” as Chambers played 74 minutes of the win before being replaced by Celtic’s Kyle Ure.

Sam Chambers is enjoying brilliant season but loan is needed

A brilliant season for Chambers so far, a regular in the Leeds 21’s, a senior debut and a Scotland U19’s debut. But, Chambers has to have a serious think about a potential loan move in the January window.

Having already tasted first-team football, Chambers and Leeds will know that to get the best out of the talented attacking midfielder then letting him join a Football League club will help shape his potential.

Not only that, but Chambers – who can play in central midfield and further forward – is vying for a place in a side that boasts numerous midfield options and players like him. A January loan should be looked at.

But Chambers does have time on his side at 17 and if he simply remains in the U21’s, no harm done. But if he returns next pre-season with senior football under his belt, it could make the difference.
