Leeds United have a player who’s tearing it up for the Under-21s right now, it’s not Harry Gray

Leeds United have produced some fine players over the years, and the one who everyone is talking about right now is Harry Gray.

Following in brother Archie Gray’s footsteps, Harry Gray looks like he could be the next Leeds United academy player to make a splash in the first-team.

Gray made his first-team debut for Leeds United under Daniel Farke last season and there could yet be some minutes for the 16-year-old in the Premier League this time round.

After deadline day, Farke is really lacking striker options, and an injury to any of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Joel Piroe or Lukas Nmecha could force Farke to promote Gray into the first-team.

Though it’s not just Gray who’s making a name for himself at Thorp Arch right now. Another is Alfie Cresswell, brother of former Leeds United player Charlie Cresswell who was linked with Borussia Dortmund among others this summer.

Alfie Cresswell is tearing it up for Leeds United U21s this season

In the Under-21s Premier League 2 table, Leeds United find themselves 8th out of 29 teams, with two wins and a loss from their opening three games of the season.

Gray is the top scorer with three goals and he’s impressing once again, as expected. But another name who’s shone this season is Cresswell, who’s actually the Whites’ second top-scorer with two goals this season, despite being a centre-back like Charlie.

On top of that, Cresswell has an assist to his name, as well as helping the team to keep one clean sheet in the opening three games of the campaign.

Leeds United’s plan for Alfie Cresswell looks clear

Captain of the U21s, Cresswell was actually linked with a late loan move away from Elland Road towards deadline day last week.

League One strugglers Shrewsbury Town were keen to sign Cresswell on loan but Leeds United wouldn’t allow it to happen, clearly showing intent of keeping Cresswell with the youth side for a while longer.

At 18, he’s still very young and maybe a step into a pretty dire first-team situation at Shrewsbury might not be a good route to take. But playing for Leeds’ U21s for a while longer, then maybe next season going out on loan or stepping up to the first-team could be the right path to go down.

Leeds United are back in action against Fulham on Saturday, currently sitting in 12th place of the Premier League table.
