Emi Buendia emerged as an option for Leeds United on deadline day, but as soon as the Aston Villa player seemed like a realistic last-minute signing, hopes were dashed.
Buendia is a player who has been linked with Leeds for more than just one window. Back in January, Daniel Farke even broke normal protocol to comment on the Argentina international, his old Norwich ace.
But Buendia went on loan to Bayer Leverkusen in January, with the playmaker refusing to drop into the Championship. Now, Buendia is back at Villa and reports in the last week said Leeds could sign Buendia.
Villa are expected to sign Jadon Sancho from Man United, and then Harvey Elliott from Liverpool and that was believed to allow Buendia to go. But, The Telegraph’s John Percy had bad news for Leeds supporters.

What Leeds sources are now saying about Emi Buendia
Percy reported that Leeds had a loan bid rejected for Buendia. With Villa in the Europa League, Unai Emery had decided to keep Buendia despite the potential of adding both Sancho and then Elliott.
However, Aadam Patel now reports on The Mail’s transfer blog (01/09, 2.49PM) that Leeds sources are indicating the club never actually made an offer for Buendia, leaving it up in the air as to Buendia’s future.
Patel reports: “Reports elsewhere that Leeds have had a loan offer turned down by Aston Villa for Emiliano Buendia. But Leeds are insisting that a bid has not been made at all for the Argentine.”

If Leeds are not signing Emi Buendia, who could they sign?
Interestingly, LeedsUnited.News now understands that Leeds could sign Harry Wilson from Fulham. The Wales international is currently with Joe Rodon, Karl Darlow and Dan James with Wales’ National Team.
Fulham have moved to sign Tyrique George from Chelsea and Shakhtar Donetsk star Kevin. It has seen Leeds pounce, and open talks for Wilson with Graham Smyth following up our initial story on Wilson.
It seems at this stage, Wilson is the one Leeds are pursuing. In terms of outgoings, Illan Meslier needs to make a decision between Valencia and Lorient, while Darko Gyabi is set for a permanent move to Hull.
