Leeds United and Emi Buendia is a story which has consistently popped up throughout the summer transfer window.

The playmaker is a former favourite of Daniel Farke’s at Norwich City, and Leeds United could yet seal a deal for the Aston Villa ace. Gus Hamer or Buendia seemed likely for Leeds at one stage.

There has been talk of a £16.8 million Leeds move for Buendia this summer, while other reports suggest a loan move could be on the cards for Buendia from Aston Villa.

Leeds wanted Buendia in January, but Buendia did not want to drop into the Championship. Other reports then stated Buendia is actually valued at £20 million. However, there have been a few further developments since.

Emi Buendia updates emerge with Leeds interested on deadline day

Villa rejected loan interest in Buendia earlier this summer but the Villa playmaker remains one of four Leeds targets for that No.10 or winger role ahead of the deadline.

Paul Joyce in The Times’ live blog at 9.25am states: “Aston Villa are monitoring Liverpool’s Harvey Elliott who will be squeezed further down the pecking order by Alexander Isak’s arrival.

“Villa may have to move on Emi Buendia first if the interest in the England Under-21 international is to be realised. Leeds United are interested in Buendia, who spent last season on loan at Bayer Leverkusen.”

A move for Elliott could see Unai Emery sanction a switch for the Argentine and Buendia has been visibly frustrated at Emery as Villa’s boss has seldom utilised him so far this season.

David Ornstein has revealed Elliott is heading on loan to Villa from Liverpool. Not only that, but Jadon Sancho is set to bolster Villa ranks further.

Graham Smyth’s latest update on Emi Buendia

Buendia was always an option for Leeds this summer, despite interest in other targets. Buendia’s comments on Farke also add fuel to that, with many construing his praise as something of a come-and-get-me plea to reunite with his former boss.

The Yorkshire Evening Post, via Graham Smyth, have provided the latest on the playmaker since the Joyce update. He added: “And last we checked the chances of a late swoop for Emi Buendia were slim.

“Things could change on that one. Things could change for a small number of targets but not many and the ticking clock is against Leeds now.”

That update didn’t take into account Elliott signing so rapidly, though.
