What Leeds sources are saying about reports of a bid for Gustavo Hamer including Joel Piroe

Leeds United’s interest in Gustavo Hamer has not subsided despite the imminent arrival of Ao Tanaka, with The Whites said to have tabled a second offer to sign Hamer.

The 25-year-old is currently considered one of the best midfielders in the Championship right now. He has proven that already this term with two goals in three league games for current side Sheffield United.

Leeds made a £13m bid for Brazil-born Hamer, but that was rejected by the Blades and deemed derisory by the club’s promotion rivals. Indeed, Sheffield United are desperate to keep him to push for promotion.

The Whites are close to confirming the signing of 27-time Japan star Tanaka, strengthening the depth in the middle of the park. But interest remains in Hamer and Leeds have now tabled a second bid for him.

Leeds reportedly table second bid for Hamer, including Piroe

Reports on Thursday said that Leeds had returned to the negotiating table for Hamer by offering Sheffield United cash as well as striker Joel Piroe. A move that cannot have been good news for the Dutch striker.

But again, Sheffield United have rejected the bid with Chris Wilder not convinced Piroe adds anything to his side. Graham Smyth now says that Leeds sources have told him that there is no truth in that report.

He reported on X: “Our sister paper the Sheffield Star reporting that Leeds United have offered Joel Piroe in a swap deal for Gustavo Hamer. Which Leeds categorically deny.”

If Leeds have included Piroe, he cannot be happy with the club

Now Leeds as you might imagine, have informed Smyth that the offer is simply not true. But, if it is true that Leeds have returned with a second offer for Hamer while including Piroe, then Piroe can’t be happy.

Piroe is hardly one of the first names on the team sheet and pressure is already on the Dutchman to show why Leeds bought him for big money from Swansea. But now, Leeds may have shown he is expendable.

Perhaps, before the deadline on Friday, there is a chance that Piroe ends up departing given The 49ers could have just shown the striker that they would be open to his exit, especially if it was to sign Hamer.
