What Everton sources are now saying about Beto joining Leeds United this summer

An exciting summer awaits Leeds United, but the 49ers aren’t wasting any time by pursuing Everton striker Beto.

The striker from Guinea-Bissau is said to be on Daniel Farke’s radar as the Leeds hierarchy are aiming to improve the Whites squad with Premier League talent.

With Beto’s deal considered, the owners want to utilise Leeds’ £100m transfer kitty, and starting with the £26m-rated forward might be the perfect opportunity.

Farke will want competition in his forward line as Joel Piroe hasn’t exactly been tested by the likes of Mateo Joseph who himself could exit Leeds.

This gives more reason why Beto would make the switch to Elland Road, and now insiders have revealed the latest.

Everton insider gives Beto to Leeds United update

With Beto now on Farke’s radar, and the ownership clearly after a striker, this could bring concern for Piroe.

The Dutchman was excellent in the Championship, but cracks did begin to appear when Piroe could’ve been dropped, which an experienced striker would be able to correct in the top flight.

Whether Beto is the answer to that is another question, but when looking at his season in the Premier League, he could be ideal for a team who will face a relegation battle next season.

However, as good as it seems for the 27-year-old in moving to Elland Road, an insider from the Toffees spoke to the Yorkshire Evening Post about what Everton owners, The Friedkin Group, plan to do over the summer.

Any talk of Beto joining Leeds is ‘premature’ given he is the only senior centre-forward at Everton contracted to the club beyond the end of the 2024/25 season.

An Everton insider told the outlet it is ‘difficult to envisage’ the club selling a player who has been an important part of the second half of this season so early in the summer window, claiming they don’t like the prospect of selling to a ‘rival’ as well.

The 49ers should spend their Beto money elsewhere at Leeds

It’s clear that with a £26m price tag on his head, Everton would no doubt look to recoup their losses.

What’s also clear is that the 49ers are willing to fork out that many funds on a striker, with a £30m-rated striker potentially being the difference in Leeds retaining their Premier League status.

Is Beto that difference? Probably not.

Despite his strong form in February, the Everton forward is known to be inconsistent and has shown that towards the back end of this season, and this is where Leeds will need their striker most next campaign.

Beto himself wants to stay at Everton, so it would not only take a sizeable fee, but also the time to convince him to join, when attention can be turned elsewhere.

David Moyes won’t want to let go of his talisman, so the likelihood is that the Whites will be looking elsewhere.
