Back in January, Leeds United were linked with a surprise move to sign a Tottenham Hotspur defender with his long-term future at Spurs in doubt but now, he has celebrated an anniversary.

Leeds have been linked with a number of left-backs over the last few months with Junior Firpo’s long-term future in doubt at Elland Road. His contract expires in 2025 and Firpo is a big target for Real Betis.

The likes of Peterborough United’s Harrison Burrows have been linked, as has Spain-born Ireland U21 star Anselmo MacNulty. But back in January, Leeds were linked with a Tottenham player still considered key.

A move didn’t materialise as Firpo starred during the second half of the 2023-24 campaign for Leeds, with The Whites coming within an inch of getting promotion. Firpo laid on eight assists for Daniel Farke’s side.

Tottenham’s Ben Davies was wanted by Leeds back in January

Tottenham and Leeds have enjoyed a solid working relationship over the last 12 months. Gretar Stenisson left Tottenham’s transfer department to take up a more senior role at Elland Road, proving crucial.

It saw Leeds sign Joe Rodon and Djed Spence on loan, and it helped pave a path for Archie Gray to go to Spurs earlier this month. Rodon has also been signed permanently by the Whites for a fee of £10m.

But another Spurs player has been linked with Leeds this year in the form of 31-year-old Davies. He has lost his place in Ange Postecoglou’s side and Leeds were linked with a move to lure Davies out of Spurs.

Davies future in doubt as he celebrates 10 years at Tottenham

Like Firpo, Davies finds himself out of contract at Tottenham in a year’s time. Having lost his place in the side to Destiny Udogie, there is every chance he may try and get himself a move in the coming weeks.

But on Tuesday, Davies celebrated 10 years since he joined Spurs from Swansea. In that time, Davies has amassed a huge 330 appearances for Spurs and earned 87 caps for Wales, alongside many Leeds stars.

Described as “underrated” by Son Heung-min, Davies took to Instagram on Tuesday after the anniversary came about, declaring how a 21-year-old Davies was not prepared for the ups and downs along the way.
