The two players Leeds United could sell this summer for ‘sizeable PSR boost’

Leeds United might have recorded a hefty loss at the end of the 2023-24 season, but promotion to the Premier League will at least give The 49ers the chance to spend this summer.

The 2023-24 accounts were published in the last few weeks and it saw Leeds had recorded a loss of £61m. However, that did not take into account the sales of Georginio Rutter, Crysencio Summerville and others.

With Premier League money now set to come in, Leeds will be given much more license in the window to spend if required. However, Profit & Sustainability Rules are strict and it might be Leeds still need a sale.

Certainly, there will be players that leave this summer in order to make room for an influx of new talent as Daniel Farke – or whoever is in charge – looks to make Leeds a side capable of avoiding relegation.

Leeds earmark two players they could sell to improve PSR issues

If PSR does become an issue for Leeds, The Athletic report Leeds have identified two players that could make the club a tidy profit this summer and allow them to spend more of The 49ers and RedBull’s cash.

Indeed, Beren Cross claims Pascal Struijk and Willy Gnonto will see Leeds make tidy profits in the eyes of PSR. Struijk joined Leeds more than seven years ago in January 2018 as a teenager from Dutch side Ajax.

A nominal fee for Struijk who has grown into a vice-captain at Leeds. Struijk has even garnered interest from PSV Eindhoven this summer, while winger Gnonto could also be offloaded to bring in some profit.

How much profit could Leeds make on Gnonto and Struijk…

It is unclear how much Struijk was bought for, but Caught Offside reported in December that Leeds rate left-footed Struijk at a fee of around £25m. That would see Leeds make north of £24m in terms of profit.

Gnonto meanwhile, is believed to have cost around £5m from Swiss side Zurich in the summer of 2022. A fee of £20m would see Leeds quadruple their output on Gnonto, even if is not automatically a starter.

Gnonto has has plenty of interest over the years, notably from Everton and Bundesliga side Freiburg. But both will surely prefer to remain at Elland Road having played important roles in sending Leeds up.
