The striker that backroom staff at Leeds United would love 49ers to sign

Leeds United are expected to be active in the transfer window over the next few weeks, with Daniel Farke’s switch to 3-5-2 highlighting a lack of depth in a few areas.

Having failed to sign an attacking midfielder in the final stages of the summer window, it is likely that Leeds go after a player like Harry Wilson. A move for Como’s Martin Baturina has already been blocked.

There is interest in James McAtee again. But Farke’s move to a back three and two up top has left Leeds lacking at centre-back, especially with Joe Rodon injured, while a new striker could also be required.

Joel Piroe’s future is in doubt with Leicester and Ipswich keen, while Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha are injury-prone. A striker is likely to be a priority for Leeds over the course of the next month.

The striker that the backroom staff at Leeds United want signed

Plenty of strikers have already been linked with Leeds ahead of the January window. Joshua Zirkzee at Manchester United is an option, while Leeds have made an approach for Lazio star Taty Castellanos.

But the striker linked most with Leeds since the end of the summer window is Troy Parrott. Leeds did turn down the chance to sign Parrott in the summer, but reports claim Leeds are still in contact over a deal.

Now, The Mail claim that backroom staff at Leeds would like the former Tottenham striker signed. Not least, after his exploits in an Ireland shirt in the last international break, which Leeds scouts watched.

Leeds United’s transfer budget and Troy Parrott’s price tag

Robbie Evans has made the point that Leeds will cross the PSR line with another signing. But there has since been reports that suggest that is a myth, and that Leeds do have room to spend without PSR worry.

Should Leeds follow Nottingham Forest’s path and risk a points deduction? 💸

“This summer, we spent everything we could. Unequivocally, we are maxing PSR out this season. If we had gone on to other targets [on deadline day], the consequences would have been seen in the current roster. More key players from last season would have had to go.”

Indeed, it is believed that there is £20m to £25m to be spent before Leeds cross the line and risk a points deduction like Nottingham Forest. Leeds were told £25m was the fee for Parrott in the summer window.

They walked away from a deal and now, having scored 16 goals in 22 games and his heroics for Ireland, his fee is likely to be a lot higher. Karim El Ahmadi reckons more than £10m has been added to his tag.
