Why imminent Manor Solomon move affects Willy Gnonto’s Leeds United future

The January transfer window is upon us and Leeds United fans will be expecting a signing or two over the next few weeks. Not many, however, will have predicted another move for Manor Solomon.

Solomon returned to Tottenham in the summer after a year on loan at Leeds. The winger had hinted that he would like to join Leeds permanently if the Whites had been promoted, but surprisingly, he didn’t join.

It is believed Solomon wanted another crack at his Tottenham career with a new manager in place, in the form of Thomas Frank. But he suffered an injury in pre-season, and on deadline day, he was loaned out.

Solomon joined La Liga side Villarreal on loan until the end of the season. That is despite reports of a deadline-day move from Leeds to land Solomon, which did not materialise. Now, he’s on the move again.

Do YOU want Manor Solomon back at Leeds?

Manor Solomon’s next move now affects Leeds man Willy Gnonto

The 26-year-old has only managed 358 minutes of football spread across 11 appearances and while he has had a hand in five goals, three assists have come against clubs in smaller leagues in the Copa Del Rey.

Villarreal are open to his return to Spurs, and given Solomon hasn’t played for Tottenham this season, he is able to join another club. Now, Fabrizio Romano claims that Solomon is set for a loan to Fiorentina.

“Fiorentina reach verbal agreement for Manor Solomon, here we go! The winger is set to leave Villarreal with loan move to be interrupted and new transfer to Fiorentina from Tottenham. Deal agreed today.”

Fiorentina need all the help they can get, sitting bottom of Serie A and winning just one game. But he is not the only winger La Viola have been linked with, with Willy Gnonto also touted as a Fiorentina target.

If Gnonto was perhaps eyeing a move in January, Solomon’s move to Fiorentina ends any chance of that happening. Certainly, all the signs are pointing towards Gnonto wanting to leave Leeds in January.

What is happening with Willy Gnonto at the moment?

With Solomon off to La Viola, Gnonto’s chances of a move have slimmed. Indeed, Fiorentina are the only club to be linked so far. Gnonto is likely to be frustrated at Leeds at the moment, under Daniel Farke.

Starting the season first choice, Gnonto picked up an injury and has since been used off the bench. He got assists against Brentford and Liverpool, and yet, Gnonto is forced to wait for a start in the side.

Against Sunderland, he immediately walked down the tunnel, which Farke won’t have liked. Leeds are supposedly willing to listen to offers for Gnonto, because the Italian presents a big PSR profit.

The tunnel, PSR, Gnonto’s game time, and constant links with a return to Italy suggest a move could happen this month, and if not this month, then the summer. But Solomon prevents it being Fiorentina.
