Leeds United are in desperate need of a new no.1 this summer, and Daniel Farke could be about to sign one for as little as £1.5million.

Illan Meslier became a real talking point towards the end of the 2024/25 season for Leeds United. But it wasn’t for the right reasons as the Frenchman was finally axed following an error-strewn campaign.

Now, it’s being speculated that Meslier will leave Leeds United this summer and that Daniel Farke will sign a brand new no.1 for the upcoming 2025/26 Premier League campaign, with several names mentioned so far.

Among those tipped to be of interest at Elland Road are the likes of Caoimhin Kelleher, Aaron Ramsdale, and Augsburg goalkeeper Finn Dahmen, though none seem all that close to a move to Elland Road.

Of them all, Kelleher has arguably been the most closely linked. Earlier in May, we revealed that Leeds United have held talks about signing Kelleher from Liverpool this summer, though the Irishman has a growing number of suitors in the Premier League.

Leeds United still keeping tabs on Swedish goalkeeper Noel Tornqvist

One name mentioned alongside Leeds earlier in the year was Swedish goalkeeper Noel Tornqvist. It was revealed that Leeds United were interested in signing Tornqvist from current club Mjallby AIF, where the towering 6ft 6in goalkeeper has been turning heads in the Allsvenskan.

The 23-year-old conceded 11 goals in 12 Allsvenskan games so far this season, keeping three clean sheets in the process. Swedish outlet Fotboll Direkt are now reporting that Leeds United never dropped their interest in Tornqvist and that Farke’s side are still weighing up a summer move for the former Swedish U21 goalkeeper.

They add that Mjallby want 20 million Swedish krona, or about £1.5million to part ways with Tornqvist during the summer transfer window in Europe.

Noel Tornqvist’s stats in the 2025 Allsvenskan season so far

Tornqvist’s Mjallby are actually sitting top of the Swedish top flight after 12 games, with Tornqvist having featured in all 12 of his side’s league games so far.

Despite being top of the table, Mjallby and Tornqvist have only managed three clean sheets so far. But the shot-stopper has a better save percentage record than Meslier had in 2024/25 and more saves-per-game too.

Stat (league)Tornqvist this seasonMeslier this season
Saves PG2.91.7
Save %7671
Goals conceded PG0.90.7
Touches PG4637.8

Whoever comes in this summer, Farke needs to ensure that they have the quality and the mentality to play for Leeds United in the Premier League, which is something Meslier simply didn’t have.

Tornqvist though seems like more of a signing for the future. If he signs then expect Farke to still go out and buy another new no.1 goalkeeper for his Leeds United side.
