Leeds United appear to pull out of deal for £10m full-back as Spurs and Everton now circle

Leeds United are in dire need of some new full-backs this summer, amid the ongoing uncertainty surrounding Junior Firpo’s future at the club.

Daniel Farke has a number of positions he really needs to bolster this summer. But none seem as pressing as the full-back position with the possibility that Leeds United go into the summer with just Jayden Bogle and Isaac Schmidt in their ranks.

Junior Firpo is out of contract and he’s being more closely linked with a move away from Elland Road all the time. Elsewhere, Sam Byram is in talks to stay with Leeds United, but even still, that won’t be enough for Farke next season.

One full-back linked with a potential move to West Yorkshire is Panathinaikos’ Georgios Vagiannidis: the former Inter Milan man has been a key player for the Greek outfit this season but Leeds United aren’t alone in their pursuit of the 23-year-old.

Spurs and Everton keen to sign Georgios Vagiannidis, no mention of Leeds United

Previous reports have revealed that Spurs are interested in signing Vagiannidis this summer, with Everton loosely mentioned as well. Now, an emerging report from Greek outlet Prasinoforos has revealed how two Premier League teams are ready to enter into talks to sign Vagiannidis: they are Everton and Spurs, but the article makes no mention of Leeds United.

Prasinoforos stress that neither Spurs nor Everton have yet to make a formal bid for Vagiannidis, who Panathinaikos want €12million (£10million) for this summer, with the summer transfer window officially opening on June 1st for teams in the Premier League.

A four-cap Greek international, Vagiannidis has featured 27 times in the league for Panathinaikos this season, scoring once and assisting once. He remains under contract until the summer of 2028.

Sporting CP have bid on the table for Georgios Vagiannidis

Interestingly, the report makes no mention of a previously reported bid from Sporting CP to sign Vagiannidis this summer.

Earlier in the month, it was reported in Portugal that Sporting CP have offered a contract to Vagiannidis worth £1.1million-a-year, on a five-year contract, with the Portuguese giants having submitted a third offer worth close to the £7million mark.

There seems to be a bit of disagreement around the price of Vagiannidis but with so many top teams now making checks, it would be understandable that the price tag quickly goes up.

Either way, it seems like Leeds United have either withdrawn themselves from the race, or are being left behind.
