Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has delivered the latest regarding the future of Peterborough United captain Harrison Burrows after links with Leeds United in the last 24 hours.

Posh captain Burrows, 22, is attracting plenty of interest from Championship clubs after a quite sublime campaign in which he scored a huge six goals and laid on 15 assists in League One for Darren Ferguson.

Plenty of clubs have been linked but it was strongly reported that Sheffield United were closing in on a deal to land the defender. However, Leeds were touted as hijacking Blades’ move for Burrows on Monday.

But shortly after those reported emerged, the Yorkshire Evening Post played a move for Burrows and Blackburn goal machine Sammie Szmodics down. Chris Wilder has given the latest on Burrows’ future.

Sheffield United were in action on Monday night as they also faced Harrogate Town after Leeds won 3-0 last Friday, beating the League Two side 4-1. Wilder spoke to BBC Sport’s Football Heaven after the game.

He said that there had been a lot of talks regarding Burrows. But, that Sheffield United were “pretty close” to securing a deal for the left-back which is believed to be in the region of £3m, to lure him to Sheffield.

“There’s been a lot of talk. We’re pretty close so we have to wait and see what happens over the next 24, 48 hours. It’s no secret that we’re after a few players and his profile is one we are looking at,” he said.

Sheffield United using Jayden Bogle money to secure Burrows

The imminent arrival of Burrows at Bramall Lane comes after Leeds spent £5m to raid Wilder’s men and sign Jayden Bogle. A move that could have been helped by Jamie Shackleton’s move to Wilder’s side.

Bogle’s arrival meant Sheffield United’s coffers were £5m better off and they have instantly used that to get a deal over the line for Burrows, at £3m. It has to be said, pretty good business from Leeds’ rivals.

The Whites still need more depth at full-back with only Bogle, Junior Firpo and an injury-prone Sam Byram as options as things stand. Daniel Farke may opt to switch to a three-man, wing-back system.
