Sheffield United are reportedly said to have identified a replacement for Gustavo Hamer after Leeds United had a bid rejected for the Brazilian, and now they have agreed a fee for the replacement.

Hamer, 25, has become one of Leeds‘ targets for the last few days of the transfer window and while some reports say a second bid is unlikely, the Brazil-born ace remains on Leeds’ radar ahead of the deadline.

It comes after Hamer has starred in the Championship mostly for Coventry City and then this season, for Sheffield United. Clocking up 126 appearances in England’s second tier, he has had a hand in 44 goals.

Reports this week said that Sheffield United, despite rejecting Leeds’ £13m offer for Hamer, had picked a replacement for Hamer in the form of Celtic star Mikey Johnston after his impressive West Brom loan.

Indeed, Johnston scored seven goals and created two more in 20 appearances for Carlos Corberan’s West Brom during a loan in the second half of 23-24 and that has attracted interest from Championship clubs.

The Sun’s Alan Nixon now reports on his Patreon channel that Sheffield United have agreed a bargain fee of just £2.5m for Celtic star Johnston, with Brendan Rodgers willing to cash in on the Ireland international.

Sheffield United planning for possible Hamer exit before Friday

Chris Wilder said before reports emerged that it was Leeds that has tabled a bid for Hamer, that The Whites were a “million miles away” from meeting Hamer’s price, but it showed they were willing to sell.

Graeme Bailey has told Leeds United News that The Whites would have to table a fee of £20m to get Hamer to Elland Road before Friday’s deadline. Whether that is possible remains to be seen at Leeds.

But a move for Johnston and the fact Sheffield United do have a price tag for Hamer gives Leeds fans hope that a possible exit is on the cards. Leeds are expected to announce Manor Solomon on Tuesday.
