Leeds United are in the market for the signing of Sheffield United star Gustavo Hamer after seeing an initial £13m bid for the midfielder, and the Blades have identified a replacement.
Hamer, 25, has sparkled over the last few years for both Coventry City and Sheffield United. The Brazil-born midfielder joined Wilder’s side in the summer of 2023 after Sheffield United gained promotion.
But Hamer could not prevent Sheffield United from being relegated and the midfielder is back in the second tier of English football. He has made an excellent start, scoring two goals in three league games.
Chris Wilder said over the weekend that they have received two bids of late, one that is close to Sheffield United’s valuation of a player and another that is a “million miles away” and that’s where Leeds come in.

Sheffield United line-up Mikey Johnston if Hamer leaves for Leeds
Leeds tabled a £13m offer for Hamer but it has been rejected by Sheffield United. The Blades have told Leeds to come back in with a bigger offer but it remains to be seen if Leeds will return for the midfielder.
Now, The Sun’s Alan Nixon claims on his Patreon channel that Wilder’s side have lined-up a replacement in case Hamer does opt to join Leeds, if of course Daniel Farke’s side make a second bid for the player.
They will move for “brilliant” Celtic star Mikey Johnston, who sparkled on loan at Carlos Corberan’s West Brom during the second half of last season. In 20 West Brom games, he scored seven and created two.

Johnston interest a sign that maybe, Leeds do have a chance
There is no doubt that Hamer would be a stunning signing. Leeds want a goalscoring midfielder after losing Archie Gray and Glen Kamara, and Hamer fits the bill to a tee but of course, he’d be expensive.
Sheffield United’s stance on Hamer shows that while Leeds are some way off the midfielder’s price tag, it does show that Sheffield United are willing to sell Hamer if the price is right before Friday’s deadline.
That they are already lining up a replacement in case Hamer does leave suggests they are well aware that Hamer may be keen on a move to Leeds, and reuniting with Jayden Bogle at Elland Road this summer.
