Roma open talks to sign a third Leeds United player in the space of the last 12 months

Roma have opened talks with Leeds United once again ahead of a possible move to sign one of Elland Road’s key players, and possibly a third player from Leeds in the last year.

Leeds and Roma have done plenty of business both this summer and last. A year ago, the Italian brought in Rasmus Kristensen on loan while extending defender Diego Llorente’s loan at the club by another year.

Llorente had initially joined Roma on loan in January 2023. After helping them get to the Europa League final at the end of the 2022-23 season, Llorente saw his stay at Roma extended by another campaign.

Both members of Victor Orta’s eight-strong loan army, Llorente and Kristensen find themselves at new clubs this summer. Kristensen has joined Robin Koch’s Frankfurt, Llorente is with Marc Roca at Real Betis.

Roma could now sign third player from Leeds in 12 months

Jose Mourinho signed both Kristensen and Llorente for Roma, having handed the latter his professional debut at Real Madrid. But now, Mourinho is at Fenerbahce and Daniele De Rossi is manager at Roma.

Fabrizio Romano reported on Monday that West Ham had opened talks to sign Crysencio Summerville but that Roma were interested. Now, CalcioMercato say Roma have also opened talks to land the star.

Summerville is said to be weighing up his future at Leeds. Manchester United have since been touted with a surprise move for Summerville, in a deal that would see him reunite with new signing Joshua Zirkzee.

What Summerville agents are planning after West Ham approach

Summerville has now been at Leeds for four years and his representatives are keen to show a level of gratitude back to The Whites. They want to repay Leeds, after The Whites brought him to England at 18.

While there is an understanding between Leeds, Summerville and his agents that he will leave in the coming weeks, his team are keen to do a deal that benefits Leeds in terms of cash and repays The Whites.

Whether his representatives and Leeds can find a buyer that matches their £40m valuation of Summerville remains to be seen. Romano makes it clear that West Ham are aware a move for him would be expensive.
