‘Preparing an offer’… Journalist drops Gustavo Hamer bombshell with Leeds United and PSV in transfer battle

Leeds United appear close to completing deals to sign two new midfielders. But there could yet be a third to follow with Gustavo Hamer’s Sheffield United future increasingly uncertain.

Leeds United’s summer transfer window appears to have really burst into life in the last week.

Daniel Farke was making steady progress as it was, before reports revealed that Leeds have agreed a deal to sign Sean Longstaff from Newcastle United, which was quickly followed by reports that Anton Stach has agreed personal terms with Leeds as well.

Should both sign then it’ll give Farke a potentially whole new midfield pairing going into next season. But both players are more holding midfielders, or box-to-box midfielders. A no.10 signing may still be necessary.

One such player linked is Gustavo Hamer. Leeds United have been interested in Hamer for some time now, and after Sheffield United lost the Championship play-off final to Sunderland, there’s been a lot of talk about Hamer potentially leaving.

The latest on Gustavo Hamer’s future amid Leeds United transfer rumours

Going into the summer, it was revealed that Hamer wanted to seal a Premier League move despite interest from PSV. But the Dutch giants are persisting with a potential move for the Brazilian-born Hamer, per journalist Sacha Tavolieri who posted on X on Thursday, claiming that ‘negotiations over personal terms’ are underway and that PSV are ‘preparing an offer’.

But Dutch journalist Rik Elfrink thinks otherwise. He posted on X on Thursday as well, an hour after Tavolieri, writing that ‘there is no particularly significant development regarding Hamer and PSV’.

Elfrink adds that ‘PSV will likely only make an offer once a personal agreement is reached’, which is ‘not yet the case’. So for Leeds United, there’s certainly confusion over whether or not PSV are making a move, but rumours of PSV talks could prompt Farke to make his move sooner rather than later.

What Ruben Selles says about Gustavo Hamer’s Sheffield United future

It seems inevitable that Hamer leaves Bramall Lane this summer: he was the Championship Player of the Season last year and reports say that Hamer might cost just £6.8million this summer, so it feels highly likely that a club comes in and signs him.

Whether that club is Leeds United remains to be seen. But even Sheffield United manager Ruben Selles seems to think that Hamer moves on this summer.

Speaking recently, Selles gave his verdict on Hamer’s future at the club, failing to rule out the possibility of his star player leaving during this summer’s transfer window.

“If we can, we need to try and keep him and I think he’s happy where he is,” Selles said. “Hopefully he’ll keep playing for us. He has been outstanding in terms of his character and behaviours, so nothing suggests to me that he will change.

“Obviously you can never say never because football is football and sometimes there are things that you cannot control. But if I can choose, and from watching his attitude, I would like to keep him with us, and I think he is happy where he is.”
