One thing Victor Orta did deserve credit for was his ability to bring in an unknown teenage talent before the had become a household name while at Leeds United.

In the first team at Leeds currently include players like Illan Meslier, Pascal Struijk, Mateo Joseph and Wilfried Gnonto. All bought by Orta and his recruitment team as teenagers for tiny transfer fees.

Leeds have benefitted this summer, with another signed as a teen and turned into a proven elite player in the form of Crysencio Summerville leaving for West Ham. The Hammers have spent an initial £25m fee.

Plenty have come and gone, or fallen through the net. One that Leeds might feel a little bit of regret towards is Polish star Mateusz Bogusz after he was signed by Leeds as a 17-year-old from Ruch Churzow.

Mateusz Bogusz starring in America a year after leaving Leeds

Having only managed three senior appearances for Leeds during the Marcelo Bielsa era, Bogusz was loaned to Logrones before a move to Ibiza where he impressed before suffering an ACL injury.

Having recovered from that, the “talent” as described by Mateusz Klich returned to Ibiza for a second loan before he was recalled by Leeds and sold to MLS side LAFC who were looking to replace Gareth Bale.

In his first season, Bogusz scored four goals and laid on eight in 42 games. Not the best of numbers but this time around, he has scored a whopping 16 goals in 32 games and has laid on another six assists.

Celtic looking to replace Kyogo Furuhashi with Bogusz signing

An attacking midfielder during his time at Elland Road and on loan in Spain, and indeed during his first season with LAFC, he has since been moulded into a centre-forward or a false nine with the MLS outfit.

According to Meczyki, Celtic are ‘seriously’ interested in signing Bogusz with a fee between £6.8m and £8m said to be enough for his services. Talks are underway between the Scottish champions and LAFC.

With Kyogo a shock target for Premier League champions Manchester City, it could be that Celtic are looking to replace the Japan star and Bogusz could be the man they turn to to fire them to the title.
