Player has 13 involvements in 19 after Leeds exit in 2023, Mateusz Klich said he has ‘a lot of talent’

An attacking player that left Leeds United back in 2023 has just taken his tally for the 2024 campaign to an impressive 13 goals and assists in 19 games, heeding Mateusz Klich’s prediction.

Victor Orta often gets criticised for his work at Elland Road but one thing he did do that has worked incredibly well is his focus on youth, which is now coming to the fore with many young signings now key.

Crysencio Summerville, Pascal Struijk, Illan Meslier, Willy Gnonto, Mateo Joseph and plenty more were all signed during Orta’s reign as youngsters from other clubs for nominal fees but are now worth plenty.

Indeed, some reports say Summerville could go for as much as £40m this summer. A massive profit on a player Leeds signed from Feyenoord for just £1.3m, which in the eyes of Financial Fairplay is a big tick.

Another player Orta signed back in 2019 was Mateusz Bogusz. A Polish teenager brought to Thorp Arch with plenty of promise, making an impression in the U23 side and playing three senior games for Leeds.

Bogusz went on loan three times to Spain, firstly to Logrones and then twice with Ibiza. The first of which he impressed in before suffering a knee injury, before returning to Ibiza for the 2022-23 campaign.

But in March of that season, his loan was cancelled as MLS side LAFC came calling. He eventually left Leeds for the newly-formed MLS outfit, and made an impression in his first season in his 42 appearances.

However, this season he has been moved into a striker role at LAFC and it has worked with aplomb. He has clocked up 19 games in the 2024 MLS season, already having a hand in 13 goals for his current side.

Bogusz is heeding Klich’s 2019 prediction about his fellow Pole

The Polish star took his tally to nine goals and four assists in the early hours of Sunday as LAFC smashed San Jose Earthquakes to win 6-2, scoring twice and an assist with LAFC top of the Western Conference.

Back in 2019, Klich said that Bogusz had a big future ahead of him in an interview with Leeds Live. Little might he have known that both he and Bogusz would be impressing in the United States a few years on.

“I told him already he’s lucky that he got here at such a young age because he really has a lot of talent, he’s a very humble guy, he wants to learn. He’s a good player so I think he’s going to have a good future.”
