Nancy Froston delivers surprise verdict on Crysencio Summerville’s future at Leeds United

Crysencio Summerville continues to attract plenty of suitors and links without any actual bids being made for the Leeds United star, and Nancy Froston has an update.

The 22-year-old has enjoyed the best season of his career by quite a considerable distance. The U21 Netherlands star had a hand in 29 goals in 46 games for The Whites in the Championship last season.

It saw him win the division’s Player of the Year award and as is the way with that title, Premier League clubs are circling. Brighton’s bid to get Summerville has broken down but Liverpool and Chelsea are keen.

Eddie Howe is also a ‘big admirer’ of Summerville and could sell Miguel Almiron to fund a move that sees Newcastle sign the Leeds man. But there is also an eventuality that sees Summerville stay in Yorkshire.

Nancy Froston delivers Crysencio Summerville future verdict

Summerville still has two years remaining on his contract at Elland Road and while that is not a worry this summer, it means next summer Leeds may have to sell below his true value as he enters the final year.

With the interest in his services, it had been expected that Leeds would cash in on Summerville. But the sale of Archie Gray means Leeds will not be forced into anything this summer, as previously suggested.

The Athletic’s Leeds correspondent Froston spoke to the One Leeds Fan channel on YouTube and said that she can envisage a corridor in which Summerville actually remains at Leeds despite his big ambitions.

“A good chance he stays. He’s got big ambitions to play at a higher level. Whether a top Premier League team puts some money on the table, not looking that way at the moment. I fancy him to still be around.”

Leeds have two choices when it comes to Summerville now

The first is the obvious one. They entertain a possible exit for Summerville and actively look to offload the pocket-sized former Feyenoord star before the end of the summer window, raking in some cash for him.

Or, they enter contract talks with Summerville and extend his Leeds deal in order to protect an asset. A world in which Leeds go into next summer with the winger’s contract ending a year later is bad news.

The best thing Leeds can do is stage a sit-down chat with Summerville and his representatives and look to understand whether a new contract can be agreed. Perhaps, including a release clause helps all parties.
